Blake Rayne exhbition: Archives I: Blake Rayne

Emanuela Campoli is pleased to announce Archives, a series of solo presentations centered in a significant aspect of the gallery artists’ work. The crisis around physical archives and the process of archiving itself have renewed the discussion on its role as a means to understand their relationship to the present. The presentations will engage in a form of active sorting, collecting and enabling the visibility of previous works. In a context of overproduction, open readings of the past can temporarily suspend the constant chase of the new.

The first iteration will be dedicated to the linear aspect in Blake Rayne’s work, centered around RA: 15h 17m 31.22s DEC: 31° 17m 31.615s from his 2014 series, ‘A Whole New Season of Lost’. Paths and scripts have informed Rayne’s practice since the late 90s, evolving into different modes of automatic writing. Lines wander and record themselves within the codes of painting where they remain unresolved, flowing in a contained space without fulfilling any emancipatory role, but rather affirming themselves as non-productive.To contextualize the improvisational role of the line, but also its overdetermined conditions, the presentation will include works form his previous 'Wild Country series' (2012).
