Victoria Roth

Biography

Victoria Roth (b. 1986 in Paris, France) is a visual artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. She grew up in France and received her MFA from Columbia University in 2014 and a BA in History of Art & Architecture and Visual Art from Brown University in 2008. In addition to her studio practice, Victoria Roth is an arts educator in New York City.

Through imagined and high keyed compositions, Roth's work explores ideas of queer abstraction and desire as embedded in bodily forms that appear to constantly transform. While her paintings are loud and visceral, they resonate on a psychological level, revealing themselves over time. Biomorphic forms sit on the edge of recognition; a meaty shape expands like a muscle, a gnarled mass morphs into a heart, interlocking shapes appear to tickle, swell, embrace.

Roth has exhibited her paintings and drawings nationally and internationally. She has had a recent solo exhibitions and solo fair presentations such as Velvet Nerve at Broadway Gallery, New York (2022); Victoria Roth at Brennan & Griffin, New York (2019); Off the Banks at Brennan & Griffin Gallery, New York (2017); Insides at Fan Kunstverein, Vienna (2017).
